The VAT return is a preview for a month, a quarter, or a calendar year. Jupiter ERP calculates the figures live from the same documents as the cash-basis and accrual profit reports.

Period

  1. Open Accounting → VAT return.
  2. Choose the filing period first: monthly, quarterly, or yearly. The default comes from the accounting settings and applies only to this view.
  3. Then choose the month, the quarter, or only the year.
  4. Change filing opens the accounting settings on the taxes tab. That changes the period for the account permanently.

The page starts with the last completed period that matches the configured filing rhythm.

What the preview shows

The payment or the refund is at the top. Below it are the amount lines of the 2026 form, with the field number, the tax base, and the tax.

Lines that follow from your documents are filled in: taxable supplies at 19% and 7%, exempt supplies, exports, intra-Community supplies and acquisitions, supplies taxable abroad, reverse charge under § 13b UStG, input VAT, and import VAT. The VAT rule of a document decides which line it fills. Fields Jupiter ERP does not calculate from documents stay at 0. Show empty lines opens the full form. Hide empty lines leaves them out.

Documents lists the records behind a line, in cents. The balance (field 83) has no document list of its own. It is calculated like the form: tax on the bases, plus the tax fields, minus input VAT.

Which period a document falls into

  • Accrual basis: A sale counts in the period of supply. That is the delivery or service date, or the invoice date if none is set. Prepayments received before the supply count in the period they arrive. Intra-Community supplies count by invoice date.
  • Cash basis: Taxable sales count when the payment arrives. Exempt sales and sales taxable abroad count as on the accrual basis.
  • Input VAT counts by invoice date, on the cash basis too. If the supply comes after the invoice date, it counts with the payment or at the latest with the supply.
  • Cash discounts and bad debts reduce sales and tax on their own date. A bad debt also goes into field 50, or field 37 for input VAT. On the cash basis, a customer's cash discount already shows in the smaller payment.
  • Small businesses: Sales go into field 48. Tax you owe as recipient under § 13b UStG is part of the balance, without an input VAT deduction.

Euros and cents

Bases go on the form without cents. The cents are dropped. Tax amounts and the balance keep their cents. Jupiter ERP calculates the tax on fields 81, 86, 89, and 93 from the full-euro amount, as the form does. The documents underneath stay in cents, as in the profit reports.

Limits

  • Lines at 0% on a regular invoice are not counted as sales, for example pass-through costs. That is why 0% photovoltaic sales (field 87) stay at 0.
  • Exempt sales go into field 48. Exempt sales with input VAT deduction under § 4 Nos. 2 to 7 UStG (field 43) are only recognized for exports.
  • Intra-Community acquisitions of small businesses are left out, because the acquisition threshold is not known.
  • The special advance payment for a permanent filing extension (field 39) stays at 0.

The tax assessment stays with you and your tax advisor.
